Gernot Würtenberger worked as an architect in Vienna and Berlin for many years. In 2015, he founded the social enterprise Conflictfood with the idea of establishing trade relations with farmers in conflict regions and telling their stories in Germany. His work involves working with refugee camps in Palestine, Rohingya ghettos in Myanmar and opium fields in Afghanistan. There are culinary treasures to discover in the world’s cuisines and Conflictfood strengthens local structures through fair and direct trade with smallholders. Paths of distress are opened up, new perspectives are created and root causes of flight are eradicated.
